Bird’s Eye View for September 2010
With the recent discovery of some possibly famous black and white negatives in California, we at the Nest have embarked on our own discovery project involving the famous black and white photography of Jim Burke of Burton. Jim has been a photographer for 40 years and studied at the Ansel Adams School in Wyoming to hone his skills. Jim’s work will feature architectural structures with an abstract design quality. Four of the works are from Fort Worden and one from Virginia.
The possibility that fall season will start early may sound silly but we at the Nest are preparing for cool weather. Patricia Toovey is a celebrated costume maker, clothing designer and artist in the Vashon schools. About a year ago Patricia invested in wool rovings, sight unseen. If I understand correctly, it is the beginning stage for many creative wearable art projects, all need to be dyed, shaped and felted. In Vashon Artists in Schools program this year, Patricia made felted dyed beanies with 1st graders. With the excitement and magic that only P2V can muster Heron’s Nest will be the beneficiaries of beanies, hybrid felt scarves, wool melded with silk and Shibori dyed chiffon scarves. Start the season with humor and beauty and Patricia Toovey. Please come visit us at the Nest.
